Our lactation specialists will help with breastfeeding, but did you know they also work with bottle feeding, tube feedings, and prenatal care?
Occupational Therapy
Our occupational therapists will help you regain independence with feeding skills. That includes, swallow function, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, tube feeds, and table food. Don't forget about those picky eaters!
Speech Therapy
Our speech therapists will help you improve swallowing abilities, whether you are learning new skills or recovering from a stroke, brain injury, or other condition. We also do myofunctional therapy.
Meet Banks!
Banks was born without any indication of needing assistance, he latched in the hospital and started feeding. He was later re-admitted to the hospital for feeding concerns and diagnosed with 5p deletion syndrome, or Cri-du-chat syndrome. He came to see us at days old. Banks became a champion, he was being bottle fed and breastfed and what he couldn't consume for good weight gain, mom gave him through an NG tube (nasal gastric, the one that goes down the nose). He struggled with swallowing, sucking, gagging, high palate, poor tongue mobility and decreased strength overall. Many said he would not be an oral feeder, that he would rely on a G-Tube (the one that feeds through the belly). But we don't like limits and diagnosis, so in weeks he was breastfeeding independently and in months he was bottle feeding independently. What a success!
Then he got sick and Banks' feeding skills became difficult again, but he has grit and so does Empire! We are currently working on getting him back up to full feeds and we are so grateful for his NG tube as a back up until we are there.
Pray for Banks' full healing, that he lacks nothing, in the name of Jesus Christ.
